Podiatry core curriculum and syllabus

National curriculum guidance and syllabus for podiatry education, aligned to professional and placement learning outcomes.

Summary

This document sets out the draft version of the Royal College of Podiatry's new Podiatry Core Curriculum, developed as part of the NHS England Education Reform programme. It provides a comprehensive, structured foundation for pre-registration podiatry education across the UK, covering core learning expectations, domain-specific outcomes and teaching priorities.

The curriculum sets out a proposed framework of thematic areas, including:

Anatomy and physiology Pathology Assessment Treatment Prevention Public health

It is designed to support higher education institutions in shaping learning outcomes, assessment models and placement integration that align with the professional demands of podiatric practice.

Accompanying the curriculum is the POMS (Podiatric Orthopaedic and Musculoskeletal) syllabus, which defines the specialist musculoskeletal content that should be embedded within undergraduate podiatry programmes and supports consistency in MSK teaching across institutions.

Together, these resources aim to bring greater clarity and coherence to pre-registration podiatry education, helping providers align delivery with workforce priorities and expectations for future clinical practice.
